How is Appendicitis Treated in Patients Diagnosed with it?

Once a patient has been diagnosed with appendicitis at procedure which is called an appendectomy is performed, the patient may also be given antibiotics in order to fight internal infections created by bacteria surround the appendix. Antibiotics are administered to the patient prior to a surgery which will deal with the appendix.

There is a small percentage of patients who suffer from a mild appendicitis which remains localized and the internal inflammation does not cause the appendix to rupture, in such patients their bodies are able to combat the situation internally and with a little help with antibiotics the appendix can naturally heal, it is patience there is no appendix rupture and an infection has not spread around the abdomen. This condition is also known as a confined appendicitis, in such cases the appendix may or may not be removed after the body has finished healing this area.

From time to time a person might not become completely aware of his or her condition and he or she can wait from several days to weeks before consulting with their doctor, in such cases the appendix may have ruptured and caused an internal infection which created internal abscesses which are nothing more than an accumulation of pus near the area of the rupture.

Patients who have waited long enough until abscesses have been created and the appendix has closed, can be effectively treated by administering antibiotics and the abscesses can be extracted through a drainage process. In order to drain and to remove the appendix if it is necessary that doctor may create a perforation directly above the affected abdominal area, a tube is inserted through this whole in order to drain the abscesses but before that the infection that's to be located with tools such as an ultrasound or a CT scan.

Nor techniques which have been developed in order to remove the appendix include the use of devices such as a laparoscope which is a small telescope that has a camera attached to it and it is connected to a monitor which allows the surgeon to inspect the area and accurately locate the position of the appendix as well as any other abscesses which might have been created around it, once it is located in the appendix as well as the infection can be removed.
